PANS and PANDAS Support for Families

Some families describe it as waking up to a different child. OCD symptoms that appear suddenly, sometimes almost overnight, can be frightening and confusing for everyone. If your child's medical team is exploring PANS or PANDAS, we can help with the emotional and behavioral side while they focus on the medical side.

What it can look like

  • Sudden, intense obsessions or compulsions that were not there before
  • New fears about food, germs or harm
  • Severe separation worry or clinginess
  • Irritability, emotional outbursts or sleep changes
  • Difficulty with schoolwork, handwriting or focus

Taking care of yourself as a parent

Watching a child change suddenly is exhausting. Parents often lose sleep, miss work and feel unsure whether they are responding the right way. Your own wellbeing matters here too. We make space in parent sessions to talk about how you are coping and what support you need.

Our Parent University group is free and offers another place to learn practical strategies and connect with other parents who understand. Many families find that feeling less alone makes it easier to stay steady for their child.

Working alongside your child's medical team

PANS and PANDAS are medical questions, and they belong with your child's pediatrician or medical team. We do not diagnose or treat PANS or PANDAS. Instead, we work alongside your child's providers, with your permission, so everyone is supporting the same goals.

Families often feel pulled in many directions during this time. Having a therapist who understands sudden-onset OCD can make the path feel less lonely.

How we help

When it is appropriate for your child, we use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) to target OCD symptoms, adapted to your child's age and energy level. We pace the work thoughtfully, especially during flares, and adjust goals as symptoms rise and fall.

Parent coaching is central. We help you respond to rituals and reassurance requests with warmth and consistency, and we plan ahead for how to manage accommodation during flares without adding pressure when your child is struggling most. Parents leave sessions with concrete scripts and next steps they can use at home.

Sessions are held by secure telehealth for clients physically located in Florida, from the Panhandle to the Keys. Get in touch to schedule a complimentary 15-minute consultation.

Support for the whole family

Siblings, schedules and routines are all affected when a child is unwell. We help families find a rhythm that protects connection and keeps everyday life moving, even during hard weeks.
